It allows you to set the volume that the sound must reach to begin recording, and the volume at which it should end recording. It also allows you to set the trigger length for the start and stop values, which helps you to eliminate recording short bursts of sound or ending the recording process during a short pause (such as in normal speach). It may also be used as a normal manually operated recorder. If you have an internal modem, it can record telephone calls. In addition, it can play AIFF sound files, including those created with other sound programs. Each sound file is stored in AIFF format, a Macintosh standard sound format. The audio is sampled at 11, 22 or 44 kHz, with a sample size of 8 or 16 bits, either monophonic or stereo. The name of each file contains the date and time (down to seconds) the recording began. Audiocorder is used in a wide variety of applications, including digitizing LPs and tapes, recording animals and other natural sounds, and automated recording of radio transmissions. Audiocorder is native for both 68K and PPC systems. Version 2.0.0 Shareware, $20. The game was also available for the C64, Atari ST, and Amiga, but never for the Macintosh. Bub & Bob is a 90% clone of the classic game, designed and programmed to run on the Mac. Bub & Bob can be played alone or together with another human player. You are a little green or blue dinosaur with the ability to blow bubbles out your mouth. Your aim is to catch the deadly balls in level 100. So you have to play through all the 99 levels to get there. Some levels are much easier to play if you play in the two player mode. So you can say that the other player is your partner in most cases, in some cases he's your rival, for example if a big fruit appears that gives an extra score. System Requirements Bub & Bob needs 4,2 MB free RAM. It runs both Power-Mac native and on the older 68k Macs. A Mac with at least a 68040-processor is recommended, though I couldn't test it on slower machines. Changes in version 1.7.2: *Added a nice little title music to the startup screen. Startup Doubler: for faster startups! v2.6 January 3rd, 2001 Startup Doubler makes for quicker startups: Its software acceleration compensates for sub-optimal disk performance to make extensions, control panel, the Finder and startup applications load faster. Save time each time you startup your Mac! Those seconds spent waiting really add up: Startup Doubler is the fastest and easiest way to cut down the wait. Expect older Macs to startup 20% to 50% faster! The latest G3 and G4 Macs get less dramatic improvements as they're already pretty fast, but if you have lots of Extensions, Control Panels and Startup Items you can usually save 10 to 20 seconds at each startup! Version 2.6 adds support for Mac OS 9.1 and fixes a bug in the Installer that would sometimes prevent installation, in addition to a few other changes. Startup Doubler runs on Mac OS 9.1 and previous versions (going back to System 7.0), and supports multiple extension sets. It is shareware, so you can try it for free then buy only if you like it. It checks your web pages for broken hyperlinks and dangling tags and optimizes the HTML code. The program offers 5 functions as known from its predecessor HTML OptimizerPro and supports drag & drop also. Further it offers various upload and download capabilities plus other useful options that make working with WebSiteManager very easy. WebSiteManager can remove resources from graphic files. The program offers a large choice of options, including the 'alias mirror' for a good visual check of an optimized file. Every web folder gets its own optimized duplicate, with the same directory structure as the original. When you upload, the URL of the host is automatically adapted to the directory of the file or folder being uploaded. New in version 1.8: * Fixed a number of bugs that prevented the application from configuring itself at some computers, by giving false dialogs and error messages. * Improved optimization (no whitespace gobbled up when optimizing HTML code with line feeds). * More accurate link checking of web pages made with the HTML Editor PageMill. (PS, NE)" To: digest@info-mac.org Subject: Anyone with Experience Loading OS9 on UMAX S900? I would like to correspond with someone with experience loading OS9 on their UMAX S900. I would like to make this upgrade on my machine to be more compatible with my kid's relatively late model Mac's and to use a PCI USB card I purchased. This card uses Apple's USB card software which, according to Apple's web site, requires OS 8.6 (maybe 8.5?) as a minimum. When I tried to load OS9 last fall, the installation bombed out midway. The log suggested to me at least one problem is that the installer is trying to upgrade the driver on my non-Apple hard drive. I know that is a no-no but apparently wasn't successful in preventing it from happening. There is a trick here somewhere... I've also had terrible problems with upgrading my third party hard disk driver. The original driver on the drive I was working with (a Quantum 4.5 Gb drive) was APS PowerTools v4.1. I purchased Hard Disk Storage Tools from Mac Gurus and updated the driver with that, but found that the read/write performance was dramatically (~50%) lower than with the old driver when tested with the HDST software. After trying to load OS 9 without success, I reverted to the original APS PowerTools driver. I later tried to update the driver with the current version of APS PowerTools, v6.1. When that software is opened, it causes my machine to hang with a bomb message. So, I then started up from the PowerTools CD and tried to re-format the Quantum drive from there. The formatting process hung midway through, requiring a restart. After the restart, the disk does not mount and I can't do anything with it from PowerTools v6.1 (booting off CD) or PowerTools 4.1. The drive warranty expired about this time. Grrr... The good news is that the computer is now running fine on the OEM 2Gb drive. But I need more storage and a USB connection for my new digital camera! Thanks, Alan ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 05 Jan 2001 12:48:34 -0800 From: "Donald B.
