It allows you to set the volume that the sound must reach to begin recording, and the volume at which it should end recording. It also allows you to set the trigger length for the start and stop values, which helps you to eliminate recording short bursts of sound or ending the recording process during a short pause (such as in normal speach). It may also be used as a normal manually operated recorder. If you have an internal modem, it can record telephone calls. In addition, it can play AIFF sound files, including those created with other sound programs. Each sound file can stored in AIFF format, a Macintosh standard sound format, as well as the Windows WAVE format. The audio is sampled at 11, 22 or 44 kHz, with a sample size of 8 or 16 bits, either monophonic or stereo. The name of each file contains the date and time (down to seconds) the recording began. Audiocorder is used in a wide variety of applications, including digitizing LPs and tapes, recording animals and other natural sounds, and automated recording of radio transmissions. Audiocorder may also be programed with a recording schedule, specifying when it should start and stop recording, much like a VCR. It may also be used as a normal manually operated recorder. In addition, it can play AIFF sound files, including those created with other sound programs. Finally, Audiocorder can record telephone conversations, using just your internal modem. Shareware, $20. BOOM is an arcade game in the grand tradition, bringing the playability and feel of the glorious 8-bit consoles on the Macintosh. It can be described as "Bomberman meets Doom". Actually, I took the basic Bomberman idea and dropped it in a "Super-Deformed Doom" scenario (whatever this means). As a space marine your mission is to penetrate 8 alien infested areas, each one divided in 10 sub-zones, eliminate all enemies using your bombs and finally kick the Big Alien Boss back to where he came from. System Requirements: PowerPC processor; 9 MBytes free memory; Mac OS 8.6 through X CarbonLib 1.1 or later Recommended Configuration Mac OS 9 or X; InputSprocket 1.1 or later (not supported under Mac OS X); QuickTime¬ 4 or later with 'QuickTime Authoring' component installed. What's new in BOOM 1.3b4? * Fixed a subtle bug, introduced in beta 3, that caused the game to occasionally crash or quit on error. * This build has been compiled with less code optimizations to avoid crashes and spurious errors on certain system configurations. * Updated RezLib to the latest version (1.1.11). This update fixes a bug that was preventing the game to load under Mac OS 8.6. Distribution BOOM is 15$ shareware. You can distribute BOOM freely, provided that you leave the software and the accompanying documentation unchanged. You can include BOOM in CD-ROMs and other software collections only by previous agreement. Short Description: CellSynth is a software synthesiser, MP3 and AIFF sample player, DSP processor & sequencer combined Description: Sync Different! CellSynth addresses several of the main areas in computer music, notably audio synthesis, audio sequencing, sample manipulation, audio processing and automation sequencing. Unlike many of the more conventional software synthesisers on the market, it is compact and easy to use, and does not require detailed synthesis knowledge. Its efficient design means that all functions operate in real-time with low latency, allowing it to be used in a live environment with MIDI keyboards or other MIDI sources. All output can be recorded to disk for use in other software such as MOTU's Digital Performer, EMagic's Logic or Steinberg's Cubase VST. CellSynth is unusual in catering for both musical beginner and expert alike. Whilst the program is easy and intuitive to use, with an on-line manual and tutorial, those with prior knowledge of synthesis are not left frustrated - Best of all it's shareware! New Features in version 1.7: This new release of CellSynth contains support for ReWire from Propellerhead Software www.propellerheads.se allowing the user to link directly with the popular software sequencers Digital Performer 3.0, Cubase VST and EMagic Logic. ********** ABSTRACT CROPPED ********** [Archived as /info-mac/gst/snd/cellsynth-17.hqx; 3057 K] ------------------------------ Date: 19 Apr 2002 From: "Mitch B." You can define which resolutions are really accessible, and which will require a confirmation. * You can also create display sets which will allow you to change the resolution and the depth of all your monitors with just one mouse click, or just one key. With this new version, you can add scripts to display sets. That gives SwitchRes the ability to launch a script with just one key, or when an application is launched... * You can assign a specific set to an application , so that every time you use this application, your Mac will automatically switch to your predefined resolutions. You will find this extremely useful for most games. * You can save the position of the icons and the windows on your desktop, independently from one resolution to the other, unlike the Finder. Brilliant." - MacFormat UK. URL Manager Pro is a repository for your favorite Internet addresses or URLs (Uniform Resource Locators). URL Manager Pro allows you to organize and collect URLs in a hierarchical structure. Organizing bookmarks between and within folders is easy with Drag & Drop. Drag HyperText links from your Web Browser to the URL Manager Pro window to add a URL to the repository. To go to a URL, Drag & Drop a bookmark to the window of a Web Browser or double click. URL Manager Pro adds tight integration with Navigator, Explorer, iCab, Anarchie, Fetch, NetFinder, Claris Emailer, Outlook Express and Eudora. With URL Manager Pro you can add bookmark menus to the menu bar of these applications. Also, URL Manager Pro adds the URL Manager shared icon menu to the menu bar. With this menu you can create bookmarks for Web Pages from --within-- Navigator, Explorer, iCab, Add Notes, Grab All URLs on a Web Page or in an E-Mail message, and explore the Internet with a predefined set of Search Engines. (I haven't wanted/needed to check compatibility with OS 9.x, but am open to opinions.) Recently, I installed a DLink DSB-500 USB PCI card and after downloading the USB patch from Apple, it works fine. Feeling lucky (and having the CD drive die and a Firewire external handy), I installed the DLink DFW-500 Firewire PCI card and downloaded the Firewire 2.3.3 patch from Apple. Unfortunately, the Apple System Profiler tells me there is an unidentified card in the PCI slot (it correctly identifies the USB card) and a CD inserted in the drive does not mount. The DFW box says compatible with OS 8.6, but the DLink people (while helpful) know nothing about Macs. Any suggestions from the assembled wisdom out there? -- Ken Laskey kenneth.j.laskey@saic.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2002 08:36:38 -0400 From: "Howard M. On my system (9.1) it shows no Type nor Creator code, and several seem to accumulate every few days. I am back up running Mac OS 9.0.4 on a G4. Unfortunately, I could not find my backup of a recent version of AddressBook, a utility by Jim Leitch & Jim Smith, that I used for years. I have a large file of addresses and the older backed-up version (4.2) that I did find in my backups cannot open my file of addresses. I cannot find a recent version on the internet or in VersionTracker or macupdate. E-mail to the above is bounced. If anyone has a copy of a more recent version (than 4.2) would you email it to me as an attachment? The products I checked (Keyspan & Belkin) seems to be not compatible with the Personal 320 model, and the Stealth Serial Port seems to don't be good for the iBook. I need to connect it via usb, because i use the ethernet for an adsl internet connection. I'll promise to summarize all the answers and post them back to the list, as I've done in the past.
