Clicking and Double Clicking

Clicking and Double Clicking -- The mouse selects
(picks) items on the screen. Once the user
positions the mouse and the cursor points to an
item of interest, depressing the number one
button once, selects that item. Selection
highlights an item. It is common to call the
action of pressing on the mouse button is as
clicking. Picking, clicking and selecting are
used interchangeably in this manual. Once the
user selects and item(s), then it is available for
the file manager or program manager to take
action. The user manipulates selected items by
issuing commands with the file and program manager
menus. Double clicking results in special actions
in the program and file managers. Pressing the
number one mouse button twice in rapid succession
results in the program receiving a double click.
This technique is equivalent to opening a file.
The effect of opening a file in the file and
program managers is context sensitive. The
sections on using the file and program manager
will describe the effect of opening a file in
detail. Clicking on an item when another item is
selected will deselect the first item. It takes a
little practice to be able to double click as
opposed to clicking twice. In the first case
double clicking will "Open" the file. In the
second case two single clicks will only select the
          file.
