Options - Terminal Mode

Terminal Mode -- The Options menu Terminal Mode
option toggles between two distinct operating
modes. When the Terminal Mode toggle is on,
toggle darkened, the file manager issues its
commands to the terminal window. The terminal
window executes the commands. This keeps the file
window synchronized and displays the actual UNIX
commands that are being issued to execute the
user's actions. When the Terminal toggle is off,
toggle light colored, the file manager executes
commands directly without using the terminal.
Note that when a command opens an application in
the terminal window, the application intercepts
all terminal input. If the Terminal Mode is on,
then file manager commands are sent to the
application in the terminal. As an example if
the editor is opened, file manager commands show
up as text input at the current cursor position.
Be aware of this side effect resulting from having
          the terminal mode option on.
